30. Posted: Thursday, September 8, 2016 9:29 am San Manuel donates $3 million for career tech program 0comments San Manuel Band of Mission Indians made a $3 million donation to Sherman Indian High School (SIHS) to continue the innovative Career Technical Education Pathways Program (Career Pathways) at a ceremony on the campus of SIHS, Aug. 30. Career Pathways is a technical training program preparing every Sherman graduate to work in industries geared toward the economic and social development of American Indian Nations and Alaskan Native Communities. This third grant brings $6.7 million in overall support from San Manuel to a program which lies at the intersection of current tribal and national career vocational needs in areas as diverse as agriculture and natural resource management, construction and utilities, health careers and medical technology, public service and first responders, and culinary arts, hospitality, and tourism. In today’s dynamic global economy students need vital connections between formal education and the technically sophisticated workforce, said San Manuel Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena. Through this partnership with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Bureau of Indian Education we are making direct impacts not only on the lives of students but also the sustained economic development of our brother and sister tribes across the nation. During a school-wide assembly Department of the Interior Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs Lawrence S. Roberts and Acting Bureau of Indian Education Director, Anne Marie Bledsoe Downs joined leaders from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and educators from SIHS, California State Polytechnic University and Cal Baptist University to discuss vocational training opportunities offered through the Career Pathways program. I want to thank the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for its generous support of and confidence in SIHSs innovative Career Technical Education Pathways Program, said Lawrence S. Roberts, Indian Affairs leader in the U.S.
